Traditional Cheese Pie of Crete

A delicacy of Crete and specifically of the Prefecture of Lassithi which is required to try before you decide to take the road back to your home and end your vacations. Mizithropita or otherwise nerati, as the locals call it, has unsalted, wet dough and spread with wet hands in the pan. Sounds incredible, and yet it is made by expert women cooks.. They say it was first made and cooked in Kritsa (a wonderful village of the Prefecture near Agios Nikolaos), but of course nowadays we make it everywhere. The juicy cheese pie is a different version of Sfakian pie. The main differences are the cheese that we are using and the thickness of the dough. The cheese used is a kind of sour mizithra that melts in the mouth and can be combined extremely well with honey on top of the thin dough of the pie.. During the "Greek Halloween" the juicy mizithropita has its honor and the locals will "bite" it whenever they are given the opportunity. In our grocery store – - workshop you will see the mizithropita being made in front of you and you can enjoy it while it is still hot. We challenge you to try it.
